REED BUNTING at canal, & KINGFISHER at Kings Langley Fishery.

REED BUNTING at edge of canal behind Kings Langley Fishery - my First one in this area & the bird was calling at the edge of the rough field behind so worth checking for breeding over the Spring.

  1. Glad you're checking the KL patch whilst I'm away, Thanks! Never had Reed Bunt by the canal before (although I've heard they are about). Nice one!

  2. Hi Samuel, thought I'd have a look to see if anything unusual had turned up there. I haven't seen one there either, this one gave itself away by calling & the rough area over the canal near the fishery might just be ok for them to breed. I'm often reading your blog which is brilliant, makes me want to get down to Corwall as its been a long time! Take care mate.

  3. Cheers for that. Glad you're enjoying the blog, I'm enjoying reading your patch reports too. You're always welcome to visit down here, plenty of divers, grebe, Glaucs etc to be seen on patch! Still missing the KL patch despite the tendency for fewer species to turn up on it. It's all on a relative scale though with birds like Med Gull in KL and Hemel making me jump up and down with excitement which isn't the case down here unfortunately.

Regarding the KL Med Gull, I'm not actually sure if I picked out a ring. Despite the bad viewing conditions I guess I could still have noticed one. However, there was a different 2nd winter bird roosting on Hilfield Park Res in the same week (found by Ian Bennel) which had darker primaries and less black on the head. Not sure if he noted a ring at all but I doubt it given the fact it was roosting on a reservoir.
